Baylor University, founded in 1845, is a private Christian university in Waco, Texas. Its athletic programs, known as the Bears, operate independently of tuition or state funding.

Bears Football
Baylor’s football program, established in 1899, competes in the Big 12 Conference. The Bears have won 13 conference titles and appeared in 27 bowl games, winning 14. Under Coach Art Briles and later Dave Aranda, Baylor achieved significant success, including a Big 12 championship in 2021.

Bruiser and Marigold
Baylor’s mascots, Bruiser and Marigold, are costumed bears that represent the school’s spirit and pride. The university also cares for two live bears, Joy and Lady, housed on campus.
