The University of South Carolina, founded in 1801, is a major public university in the South. Its athletic programs, known as the Gamecocks, are self-funded.
Gamecocks Football
South Carolina’s football program, established in 1892, competes in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The team has appeared in 24 bowl games, winning 10. Steve Spurrier is a notable coach in the program’s history.
Cocky
Cocky, South Carolina’s costumed rooster mascot, embodies the fighting spirit of the Gamecocks. Cocky’s playful demeanor makes him a fan favorite.
