Orange History

Syracuse University, founded in 1870, is a private research university in New York. Its athletic programs, known as the Orange, are funded independently.

Orange Football

Syracuse’s football program, established in 1889, competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The team claims one national championship (1959) and has appeared in 26 bowl games, winning 16. Legendary players include Jim Brown and Ernie Davis.

Otto the Orange

Otto the Orange, Syracuse’s costumed mascot, is a cheerful orange character who brings energy and school spirit to games and events.
