The University of Florida, founded in 1853, is a leading public institution. Its athletic programs, known as the Gators, are self-funded.

Gators Football

Florida’s football program, established in 1906, is a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Gators claim three national championships (1996, 2006, 2008) and have appeared in over 45 bowl games, winning 24. Legendary coaches include Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer.

Albert and Alberta Gator

Florida’s mascots, Albert and Alberta, are anthropomorphic alligators who bring energy to games and events.
