Louisiana State University (LSU), founded in 1860, is one of the most prestigious universities in the South. Its athletic programs, known as the Tigers, are independently funded through revenues generated by ticket sales, sponsorships, and media rights.
Tigers Football
LSU’s football program, established in 1893, is a powerhouse in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Tigers claim four national championships (1958, 2003, 2007, and 2019) and have appeared in over 50 bowl games, winning 30. Notable coaches include Paul Dietzel, Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Ed Orgeron. The team is known for producing top NFL talent, including Heisman Trophy winners Billy Cannon and Joe Burrow.
Mike the Tiger
LSU’s live mascot, Mike the Tiger, resides in a habitat near Tiger Stadium. The current mascot, Mike VII, represents the school’s fierce spirit. Mike is a Bengal tiger, and his presence is an integral part of LSU’s gameday traditions.
