
Volunteers History
The University of Tennessee, founded in 1794, is one of the oldest public universities in the South. Its athletic teams, known as the Volunteers (or Vols), are self-funded.

Volunteers Football
Tennessee’s football program, established in 1891, competes in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The team claims six national championships (last in 1998) and has appeared in 54 bowl games, winning 29. Legendary coach General Robert Neyland is a key figure in the program’s history.

Smokey
Smokey, a bluetick coonhound, is Tennessee’s live mascot, accompanied by a costumed version at games. Smokey is beloved for his loyalty and enthusiasm.
