Utes History

The University of Utah, established in 1850, has a proud athletic tradition. The Utes’ programs are funded through athletic department revenues, including ticket sales and broadcasting deals.

Utes Football

Utah’s football program, founded in 1892, competes in the Pac-12 Conference. The Utes have won two national championships in the pre-poll era (1929, 1930) and have appeared in 25 bowl games, winning 17. They are known for their recent success under Coach Kyle Whittingham, including multiple Pac-12 championships.

 

Swoop

Swoop, a red-tailed hawk, is the University of Utah’s costumed mascot. Introduced in the 1990s, Swoop symbolizes the Ute Nation’s resilience and strength, and is a staple at games and university events.
