Missouri's offense was unstoppable
Quarterback Austin Simmons put together an outstanding performance, throwing for 340 yards and two touchdowns while completing 16 of 21 passes.
The biggest star, however, was running back Jamal Roberts.
Roberts ran for an incredible 211 yards and three touchdowns, repeatedly breaking tackles and turning big plays into points. His explosive running helped Missouri pile up 560 total yards against a Florida defense that had struggled to slow the Tigers down.
Missouri's defense was particularly impressive because Florida had entered the game averaging more than 532 yards of offense per game.
The Gators never came close to that production Saturday.
Florida's rushing attack disappeared
One of the biggest reasons for Missouri's victory was the Tigers' ability to completely shut down Florida running back Jadan Baugh.
Baugh had been one of the most productive running backs in the country and had scored 11 rushing touchdowns through Florida's first four games.
Against Missouri, he managed just 13 yards on 12 carries.
After gaining 12 yards on his first carry, Baugh gained only one additional yard on his next 11 attempts. Missouri's defensive front controlled the line of scrimmage and prevented Florida from establishing the physical running game that had fueled its undefeated start.
The game changed late in the first half
Missouri led 17–10 late in the second quarter, but the Tigers created an enormous momentum swing just before halftime.
Florida went three-and-out, giving Missouri the ball with only 1:33 remaining. Missouri moved into field-goal range, and Blake Craig drilled a 50-yard field goal as time expired, sending the Tigers into halftime with a 20–10 advantage.
Then Missouri came out of halftime and took complete control.
Roberts scored on a short touchdown run. Florida punted. Craig added another long field goal.
Suddenly, Missouri had turned a competitive game into a 30–10 rout.
Roberts delivered the knockout blow
The decisive sequence came late in the third quarter.
Roberts broke free for a 76-yard run, taking the ball all the way to the Florida 2-yard line. He scored on the very next play, giving Missouri a 38–10 lead.
And Roberts wasn't finished.
A few minutes later, he ripped off an 80-yard touchdown run, putting the game completely out of reach.
Florida added a late touchdown, but by then the outcome had long been decided.
A major statement for Missouri
The victory was more than just another SEC win.
It was Missouri's first victory over a Top-10 opponent in the regular season since 2013, and it snapped the Tigers' nine-game losing streak against ranked opponents.
Missouri improved to 4–1 overall and 1–1 in SEC play, while Florida dropped to 4–1 and 2–1.
For Florida, the loss raises serious questions about the remainder of the season.
